Worldreader

Kenya and iREAD news

By Susan Moody

We are having another pretty amazing week here at Worldreader!  Zev’s in Kenya, Colin is heading there today, and so far that trip has been very positive.  Zev is impressed with The Kilgoris Project, its mission, and impact on the community. The classrooms at Intimigon Nursery and Primary School are bright and there is a well where kids fetch clean water (reducing illness and increasing school attendance).   Books, as always, are harder to find and the e-reader would be welcome there.

Over the weekend (and thanks to a strong effort by our team on the ground), we pushed 23,714 books onto the iREAD e-readers in Ghana.  I’m sorry–can we just pause for a minute and think about that?  Thanks to simple innovation, we can send tens of thousands of books to children thousands of miles away from us –separated by oceans and very difficult roads.  It’s mind-blowing, we know, and we’ll have more for you in the coming days on this!

    Hello!

I’m looking forward to meeting Zev and Colin on Friday, at our office in Nairobi. Can’t wait to talk about the e-reader and how we can collaborate using our books for children and young people, plus our monthly curriculum-based scholastic magazine, the Young African Express.

Watch this space…more amazing learning is coming up!

    Cheers,
    Susan

    Hello!
I’ve just started teaching at a school not far from Kilgoris and was keen to offer my services as a volunteer if there’s anything I can do to help.
