Inspiring Young Minds in Africa with Chelsea Clinton

We often think of global challenges as something grown-ups ponder and that tackling complex world issues such as gender equality, climate change and epidemics should be left to the adults. But that’s not the case. So many of today’s world challenges have the biggest impact on our youth. And children and young adults feel a real sense of responsibility to do their part. They are not only curious and willing, but very eager to make a difference. To do so, they need to feel empowered.

The reality for many children around the world however, is that they don’t have knowledge on what these challenges are or how to even begin to tackle them. Chelsea Clinton’s book, ‘It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!’ addresses this problem. That’s why we’re particularly excited that her book is the latest donation to the Worldreader library. This means that 40,000 students in sub-Saharan Africa will now have access to a uniquely empowering book aimed specifically at children.

Chelsea’s book gives young readers a deep understanding of the world around them. It includes suggestions, ideas for action and real stories of children and teens who have made changes, big and small—in their families, their communities, in their country and across the world. The book even features Worldreader as one of the nonprofits that is contributing towards improving global education by spreading literacy through technology, conveying to children the transformative and democratizing benefits technology is having around the developing world.

It’s Your World is part of a larger donation of hundreds of titles from our friends at Penguin Random House. “We’re committed to reaching young readers in Worldreader’s network who want to make a difference,” says Don Weisberg, President of Penguin Young Readers. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity, which has greatly enriched the reading experience for our readers and will continue to do so.

The students who now have access to Chelsea’s book will be tomorrow’s change-makers and will inspire many others. “Worldreader does incredible work to empower young people through education and reading, and I am honored that my book will be included in their digital library,” says Chelsea Clinton. “I hope that It’s Your World will show kids everywhere that they can start making a difference on issues they care about.”
