Exploring Opportunities in Kenya

I’m heading to Kenya at the end of this week to lay the groundwork to bring e-readers into classrooms in East Africa. I’ll be meeting Caren McCormack of The Kilgoris Project, which serves 435 students in five schools near the Maasai Mara. Caren’s husband, Jon, heads up software development for the Kindle, and Caren is a children’s picture books author. In Nairobi, I will also be meeting with potential funders, the Ministry of Education, and a couple of publishers. Nairobi and Accra are over 4,000 kilometers apart, and culturally quite distinct, so I’m looking forward to learning lots about what e-readers in classrooms might look like there. Organizations we’ve been speaking to in Ghana like USAID and the World Bank of course also have missions in Kenya, and we’ve been so pleased at how eagerly our Ghanaian friends have been making introductions for us. Books for all in Kenya!
