1.6 billion children can’t go to school because of COVID-19
For young students in the most vulnerable parts of the world, even just a year without school can diminish opportunities for an entire lifetime.
We must act now to ensure that reading and learning continue
for all children during this crisis.
The world’s most vulnerable children need your help
Worldreader is raising a fund of $500,000 dedicated to helping children continue to learn throughout this crisis.
The fund will allow us to reach over 150,000 new readers by responding to the urgent needs of our partners, parents, and students. Using funds raised so far, here’s our progress:
Our response to date has included:
- Partnerships with telecom partners in Ghana and South Africa to “zero-rate” Worldreader’s apps so that data fees don’t apply to reading our books.
- Formal inclusion in the Peruvian government’s Ministry of Education as part of the “Aprendo En Casa” distance learning program.
- Curating a new collection of digital books that help children avoid and cope with COVID-19.
Distance learning is the best chance these children have right now
In the last weeks, over 75,000 new users have received access to BookSmart – Worldreader’s newest and best reading program for children. The program includes a mobile app and a library of curriculum-aligned digital books. For families using BookSmart, it’s now possible for education to continue in the safety of their homes while their countries are on lockdown.
